Handmade Rag Doll to say goodbye to summer

The air has shifted and I finally need a sweater! Does that mean knitting season…

Most days, I walk along the coulees. Right now they are full of the last Blue Asters and rose hips. The wildflowers of Southern Alberta are so beautiful and instantly leave me feeling inspired. I decided to pick myself a bouquet to dry and hang in my office for when the land is covered in frozen white and walking is not an option.

The Smooth Asters reminded me of yarn I picked up on my trip to Ottawa to visit my daughter. I walked over to Gatineau on morning to a yarn store. It was the most BEAUTIFUL yarn store I have ever visited. The walls were laden with hand dyed sock yarns. I finally felt inspired to try knitting socks and bought 3 skeins. I also picked up the prettiest periwinkle Lopi Lettlopi yarn from Iceland. The asters in the coulees instantly reminded me of the dreamy yarn and I set to work on a Greta Pocket Doll immediately.

I used the technique from the My Doll Sewing Pattern for her eyes. Essentially, you use fabric paint to paint the base of the eyes and then embroidery the details on top.. For the irises I uses an acrylic fabric marker.
