The Flora Jacket Sewing Pattern Review

I did it! I finally made a quilted jacket! I found these two baby blankets thrifting and I KNEW it was time. The FLORA Jacket Pattern was SPECTACULAR.

To be honest, I have about 5 different jacket patterns I have been itching to try. I settled on the Flora Jacket by Brightside Fabric Co. as the cut is just SO GOOD.

Overall, the jacket was a breeze to put together. I had a few hiccups and seam ripping moments, but I am pretty used to that…

Here are the places I strayed from the pattern:

  • The final binding, I sewed the binding onto the right side like the pattern said, but then I hand stitched it instead of topstitching. I am old school with finishing bindings! I like the clean edge and hand stitching really doesn't take that long…

  • THE BACK. I had a weird bell shape happening. I believe it was because the fabric was SO stiff and I had made a size medium - I should have definitely made a small!

Below you can see the BELL shape… I do believe if the quilts had been less stiff, the jacket would have settled better. You can see in the second image how adding the slight gather to the bottom fixed the bell issue.

Here is a snapshot of the gather along the bottom edge before I attached the binding…

I will definitely making more!!
