How to stuff a smooth doll head…
I have made a lot of dolls over the years… and learning how to stuff the head firmly enough, without having strange lumps and bumps is a skill to be mastered!
Here are some tips!
Make sure all the curves are clipped before turning the doll right side out.
ALWAYS use small amounts of stuffing at a time.
Gently push into the head seams evenly as you work.
Lastly, if you have a heavier weight fabric that is unwilling to smooth and has those little bumps around the edge of the head, try this…
Use a spray bottle to dampen the seam around the entire head. Use your finger to smooth along the seams. It may be a wise idea to do a test on a scrap fabric, just in case the water leaves a mark… The water and pressure will relax the seams.
Don’t forget to stuff the head nice a tight! Too often, not enough stuffing is used and that create can a lumpy head.
Happy making!
